March 26 Concert

The Pacific Chamber Players will be performing their first of a series of three chamber concerts for 2010 on Friday 26th March, 7.30pm at Stella Maris Catholic Church, Maroochydore.

This concert will feature works by popular composers Beethoven, Schumann, and Mozart, in particular Beethoven’s Septet for strings and Wind, in Eb Major, op.20. This is a major work and rarely heard live. It was written in 1799-1800 in Beethoven’s 30th year. Chamber music in which wind instruments played a part occupied much of Beethoven’s attention during his first eight years in Vienna, ending abruptly with this work. It was very popular at the time due to its 18th century serenade style. The violin has all the work in the Septet, so come and along and be serenaded by the exquisite playing of Violinist Julie-Anne O’Reilly.

Also on the programme is Schumann’s Romances op.94 for oboe and piano written in 1849. These romances are melodious and song like and appear simple to listen to but require demanding playing from the musicians.

To begin the programme the Players will perform the charming Divertimento in Bb Major K.254 by Mozart written in 1776. Mozart had a high opinion of this work and delighted in playing it at various venues on his long journey to Paris in 1777. He took the violin part even though the piano is the favoured instrument. It is considered by some to be Mozart’s first mature work.

Musicians performing at this concert will be Ronald Webb (Oboe), Graham Evans (clarinet), Armin Terzer (French Horn), Neil Heymink (Bassoon), Julie-Anne O’Reilly (violin), Andrew Paszkowski (viola), Anne Bowyer (cello), Nik Davey (double bass) and Janet Brewer (piano).

Tickets are priced at $20, $15 for group of 8 people and $5 for students under 15 years. These will be available at the door. Supper will follow at the end of the concert.
